Please remember that Ezra is a Post Exilic book. King Nebuchadnezzar had taken Jerusalem captive to Babylon and now Ezra is heartbroken about the Temple of God (See 1:1-4). As you continue to read the Bible you will learn a lot about the invasion of Jerusalem and Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Jeremiah. Ezra gets the Second Temple built (6:13-22) and then confesses the sins of Israel in chapter 9. Notice what he says concerning a “Nail” in (9:8). I will tell you here and now God will always have a “nail” for Israel.
